Truecaller just crossed a major milestone. The popular caller ID app has now surpassed 450 million monthly active users worldwide, adding 50 million users over the past 10 months and 15.5 million since the start of 2025 alone.

This steady growth reflects how deeply the app has become embedded in people’s daily communication habits, particularly in markets like India, where the service has become a default tool for identifying unknown numbers, avoiding spam, and managing calls more efficiently.

India continues to be Truecaller’s largest market, so it’s no surprise that the company recently promoted Rishit Jhunjhunwala to CEO. Jhunjhunwala, who previously served as Chief Product Officer and led India operations, takes the reins at a pivotal time for the company. His appointment comes as the company’s co-founders step back from day-to-day operations to focus more on long-term strategy.

In a recent update, Jhunjhunwala emphasized that while India remains central to Truecaller’s strategy, the company is now seeing impressive momentum in other regions. According to him, 2025 has already brought significant growth in countries like Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Malaysia, and the United States, with Latin America emerging as a strong growth frontier as well.

This international growth is a key narrative shift for Truecaller, which has long been seen as an India-first company. Now, it’s becoming a more global force in digital communication, tackling spam, fraud, and unknown callers across multiple continents.

That said, the company isn’t without challenges. In India, telecom regulators are pushing mobile carriers to roll out their own caller identification solutions. This move could introduce some friction, especially if built-in caller ID features from telecom providers reduce the need for third-party apps like Truecaller. However, Truecaller’s massive installed base and brand loyalty may provide it with enough buffer to maintain dominance while adapting to changes.

Despite these potential headwinds, Truecaller has been showing solid business performance. For the final quarter of 2024, the company reported strong financials, with net sales growing 23 percent year over year and profit after tax increasing by 29 percent. The momentum carried into the new year as well, with the company’s stock already up over 33 percent since January.

Truecaller isn’t just growing its user base. It’s also expanding its product offerings. In the last few months, the company rolled out updates designed to improve the iOS experience, particularly around caller ID functionality. Historically, Apple’s system-level limitations have made it difficult for Truecaller to deliver the same real-time features on iPhones as it does on Android. That gap is now narrowing.

The company is also tapping into AI to make the user experience more intelligent and hands-off. One of its newest additions is an AI-powered assistant that can screen calls, record and transcribe conversations, and help users manage interactions without ever picking up the phone. These features reflect a broader push toward becoming more than just a caller ID app and evolving into a comprehensive communication tool.

Another area of focus is the in-app messaging system. While Truecaller built its brand around calls, it’s now working to enhance its SMS and chat capabilities, giving users a more integrated way to communicate without switching between multiple apps. This could be especially appealing in emerging markets where data usage is limited and users prefer to consolidate communication in fewer apps.

The combination of product innovation, global expansion, and strong leadership puts Truecaller in a compelling position as it navigates the evolving telecom and tech landscape. Its ability to adapt to platform restrictions, respond to regulatory changes, and meet the communication needs of millions of users gives it an edge in a highly competitive space.

With 450 million users and counting, Truecaller’s growth story is far from over. As the company pushes further into new markets and adds more intelligent features, it could reshape the way users around the world manage their daily communication.
